Gomez was the one of the best Habs in the last 20 years when it comes to enter the zone with the puck at high speed... but only for one season... :(

Drouin was good too

Anderson, even last year, was is good at that also.  Anderson just doesn’t have the hockey IQ once he’s in the zone.

Sadly (if I recall correctly) he tending to enter the zone on the left, circle behind the net and go back up the right-side boards.

Looks like Montreal were in on Jiricek, but Columbus wouldn’t send him to an Eastern conference team without an overpayment.  Which makes sense.

Montreal also checked in on Trouba.  Nothing about a serious offer is mentioned.

ClickBait30 (so take it with a TON of salt) suggesting Gorton is monitoring Drury's "panic" with the NYR and ready to have Habs pounce ... personally not certain I see a fit, or a panic ... at this point I expect the NYRs are looking to re-tool a bit in season but still looking at themselves as Cup contenders ... other than Savard as a 3rd pairing/PK rental and Matheson to add offence to their 2nd pairing (RHD Fox is on first) I don't see anyone else in whom Drury would be interested at this point ... trade deadline might be a different story.

It sounds to me like HuGo does their due diligence vis-a-vis other GMs and opportunities that may be out there.

That's about all there is to these reports and rumours IMHO.

I expect Gorton is keeping an eye on a whole lot of different trade partners anyway.

With how the Trouba situation unfolded, Hughes may of had an idea to pull Trouba out for a cheap package including Savard with no retention, just to have a slot available to flip Trouba later this season.  I dont see how Trouba would be of interest to Hughes otherwise.

i doubt it really was more than Hughes doing his due diligence in checking prices on trades just in case something fell into his lap.

If you're using the RG report which is the only one I've seen saying that, their 'insiders' are not reputable.

Yeah, that’s where it came from.  Good to know they aren’t that reliable.

Canucks looking to move RD Vincent Desharnais. Maybe a reasonable add at a low cost?

Definite 6/7 RHD, but that is more than they have now I-M-O (other than Savard) ... contract runs for another season after this at a not unreasonable $2M AAV ... but would want to include an NHL contract in the deal to maintain space on the "50".

Meh... a less talented Xhekaj. Other than being RIght handed, i dont see how he fits.

RHD is a void right now ... he wouldn't be a solution, but perhaps a band-aid.

I would prefer they just play Barron in all situation to gain experience and to get a chance to improve.

His potential is still fine, in my opinion. It is just the whole Habs system that is screwing with his development.

I agree, they need to find out what they have in Barron as this is a make it or break it year for him (I think).

Perhaps they have already made up their mind.

I don’t think Barron is going to end up as a steady NHLer.  His offense isn’t good enough to overlook his terrible defence, which isn’t appearing to be improving.  I really hope I’m wrong but he’s looking more like Chris Wideman 2.0 rather than a top 4 defenseman.

He could be a great example of a player you trade young before the rest of the league catches on to what you already know.

I would be surprised if Barron is a Canadien next season.

Just my unscientific gut feeling

He just doesn't fit the roster construction.  Not now and not in future.

If we didnt have all of Matheson, hutson, and Mailloux then maybe he could be a PP QB and a puck moving d, but hes not as good as those three offensively... and he will never be defensively good enough to play a role he would need to 5v5 and PKing on a team and hes just not good enough defensively.

Chris wideman is a good comparison.  There may be a team that needs that offence and would take him.  But on a roster with Mailloux, Hutson and Matheson it isnt us.

Agreed. I just think if they play him a lot and he can put up some decent offensive numbers then it would boost his trade value. Sitting in the press box does nothing for his value but he has to earn his ice time I guess. I don't see a future for him here.

I’m not understanding why Newhook was traded for. He has speed for sure, but small and one dimensional….Was this not the type of player we’re trying to get away from?

Newhook was high pick in draft. His college career and AHL numbers, he should be much better than this.

Sorry, what value are you talking about, a mid round pick?

He can barely make a weak roster giving up a ton of goals as it is.

I could be wrong; but, kinda doubt Hughes and St Louis are considering his trade value when dressing or scratching him.

I could see Barron as part of another trade or perhaps a team that is very weak with puck moving offensively minded Dmen would take a low cost risk on Barron.

A low second rounder would be amazing but I’m expecting a third.

Maybe there is a back up goalie trade possible? Barron for Back Up Bill and then waive Primeau?
