Yep.  We'll see more re-entry players than usual and that will affect things.

One of them later pointed that Seattle needs to fill not only their NHL roster but also their AHL team, so selecting players eligible to go to the Charlotte Checkers (AHL team shared with Florida for 21/22; they will have their own AHL team in 22/23 - Palm Springs).

Who needs a timeout at the 4th pick of the round?

Either Ryker Evans was their pick and now they're scrambling or they're finalizing a trade.

Someone (Detroit) wants to move up to get Aatu Räty?

Wouldn't mind the habs moving up to grab one of the best still available.

I kept looking for a list of re-entry players available before the draft and couldn't find one.

Does anyone know where to find one?

It's a slippery slope. The first few times, it's sharing a non-consensual picture. Then it's a video. Then it's not taking no for answer because you have to have something to show your buddies. The fact remains he did something sexual with a girl and not everything about it was consensual.

There's no evidence that that course of events would ensue, which is why it's the slippery slope fallacy.

The fact that he's been caught, undergone counselling, and publicly scrutinized would lead me to believe the likeliness of it ensuing is mitigated in this case.

I don't think there's a list with just those players out there.  Some are ranked by the conventional guides, others will be off the board entirely.

I don't see this as predatory but hey that is me. Sorry but not keen on these catch phrases. A sexual predator? Really? Stretching it more than just a little maybe??????   let's not paint it beyond what it was in the name of trying to sound politically correct for the times. He is not Cosby.

The other stuff you said was over the top and I won't respond. But I agree with you here. The fine and the shame of exposure to the incident are about the right punishment. Don't snap chat pics delete after reading? Sharing a pic which auto deletes of someone's head is different than Sharing pornography on social media.

Having said that, its not something to be taken lightly either. Kids kill themselves over this sort of thing?

Maybe Mailloux needs his own thread. As long as things don’t get ugly between posters, the conversation has value. But that way, those who have said their piece can go back to read more about it if and when they want to.

Logan Mailloux faced the press this morning ... considering he is barely 18 I thought he fared well ... its importantly, I felt he was not just repeating/reading scripted responses provided to him ... although he obviously would have been coached about what needed to be said ... on another note, I think he must speak some French as the statement at the beginning his delivery didn't feel like something that was just written out phonetically

He did a really good job. Said all the right things, seemed sincere, and his French is quite good. I like that the Habs (according to this) are promising support on his “journey” to stop being a misogynist scumbag.

It’s a start, but he will need years of exemplary behaviour to put this behind him as far as I’m concerned.

Good idea!

I created one let see what the forum thinks

... but had to go back and try to re-focus discussion away from his criminal past. If he is able to make amendments and redeem himself, I would like to have the chance to follow his hockey career.

Of course it is not a sure thing that that is how things would progress. I'm not saying that it's written in stone that anyone who does this is going to become a sexual predator. But, there is no denying that that type of progression is how many, many sexual assaults happen. Things start out consensual and the guy takes that initial consent as carte blanche to do whatever he wants.

I hope that you are right and I hope he does earn this second chance that he has already been handed. Hopefully has has learned the lesson early enough that he will actually change. Getting people to learn that anything sexual needs consent is incredibly important for our society.

Unfortunately, even with best behaviour, it will never be enough for a big chunk of the fanbase. Hopefully we can see a example of rehabilitation without sweeping it under the rug.

Impressive interview, though, I can see why Bergy was willing to take this hit if he believed in the talent.

Carolina calls timeout and doesn't trade the pick.  Little surprising there.  And with their pick, all of the guys off my mini-board at 63 are gone.

He said the right things. However his actions going forward will determine whether they were just words or not.  I hope it turns out to be a good story.  The Habs knew they would get negative publicity over this pick so I am sure they will do everything they can to help him. The obviously must think picking him was worth the risk.  Time will tell.

My 2nd round wish list is dwindling down to long term projects, nothing that I can tell as a good pick:

Scott Morrow, Alexsi, Heimosalmi, Francesco Pinelli

Left:

Jack Bar (RD)?

Ryan Ufko (RD)?
Ville Koivunen (LW) ?

Benjamin Gaudreau (G) ?

Were they TRYING to make a deal but couldn't complete it ... otherwise, makes little sense ... unless Waddell was "indisposed".

True, some will never believe he is rehabilitated. He did face the music in the interview which is a good start, not an easy thing for a 17 year old to do. But again, his actions going forward will be the important thing.

Another timeout.

Other names to look for - Aatu Raty, Jack Peart, and Matthew Knies.  The first two were in our mock first round.

Let's be honest, if he is a legit NHL talent, by the time he is in the NHL making an impact, a big chunk of the fan base will have forgotten about it altogether or say something to the effect of "I don't like the guy, but he helps the team win, so go Habs!" As long as a player plays at a high level, most fans will overlook just about anything. Just watch the Kareem Hunt and Ray Rice videos. Rice was washed up and was thus blacklisted. But because he was still an elite talent, Kareem Hunt was snatched up an immediately and after an initial ruckus, that died down as soon as he started scoring touchdowns.
