Newhook is big hat, no cattle

I didnt like that trade when Hughes made it and I haven't changed my mind on it.  Hughes gave up a late 1st rnd pick and a high 2nd rnd pick in a deep draft to get Newy.  IMO, he was made redundant after last years draft.  Demidov and Hage will be on the roster at some point so Newy wont be a 1st or 2nd liner.  That was a crap ton to pay for a 3rd liner.  They would have been way better off drafting a dmen with 1 of those picks that were used to get Newy.

Plus, the Habs could have easily lost Fowler because of that trade. Hughes wanted to pick Fowler with that 2nd rnd pick and it was absolute complete luck he was still available in the 3rd rnd of that draft.

Hard fought win and a tight game. 👍 This is the sort of game the team needs to learn how to win. Good stuff.

Laine seems pretty laid back, LOL. I like when he said he 'felt terrible out there' despite being the first star (which he shouldn't have been, really, although he certainly was a good addition).

Nice win, they can get back in the playoff race in this homestand. Nobody seems to want that last playoff spot.

No kidding right.  Its mind boggling that the Habs are last in the Conf and Div yet they're only 3 games out of both wildcard spots.

I said this last year and it still applies this year that the Habs playoff chances revolve around the mediocrity of the other teams above them.  Whichever 2 teams suck the least will get the wildcard spots.

I am starting to wonder about Newhook, not sure where he fits in. A wonderful skater without a great hockey IQ. That's how I see him. Makes it exciting sometimes because his speed generates some opportunities but leaves you wanting more.

It was great to see Laine score to get off to a great start...high hopes for him and that fantastic shot of his.  Dach...ugh, the more I see of him the more I wonder how many more games it will take for him to get up to speed mentally and physically.  He's still really bad.  I agree with the Newhook sentiment; he's on line 3 when Demidov arrives IMO, and that seems to be where he belongs.

As you guys know… (and I was chastised for it), I appreciate Josh Anderson returning to his bigger, scarier form… all he needs now is to drive the net more and let teammates clean up the chaos. He can be a destroyer of worlds if he combines all his gifts and plays big.

Solid game last game and playing like we need him to since Washington game where he got into the fray. He needs to play with this edge and summon his inner Hulk to be more effective … a mid point between Wilson and Kreider shall we say.

A short excerpt from this Gazette article:

Just Joshin’: Full props to Josh Anderson for responding to a difficult season by reinventing himself. Anderson has become a valuable penalty killer and an intimidating brawler when he chooses.

I like Anderson, and I tried to defend him last year. This year I haven;t had to do that because he is playing mush better. Still not scoring but he has become an effective bottom-6 player, ad 4th liner on a Stanley cup contending team

Is Heinemen our fastest skater?

Yup, Hutson-Guhle fell asleep on the goal. Learning lesson we hope.

Not really... bad clearance by Hutson... head down threw the puck up ice, picked off and he was caught in the corner.

I can understand Dach's struggles this season, even if I think he has shown worrisome signs. Slaf I have a harder time with. Of course, he's just a kid, but his second half last season was quite a tease. I wonder if he just showed up to camp in not great shape and has been struggling to catch up ever since; that would be a typical mistake by a 20-year-old.

I forget which coach said it long ago, but seems like some big-body players take a while to get going, December is when some of them start "humming". It may be a case of that

I like that.

The way Josh plays,  North-South Hit and Grind, his size and, especially speed, make him an obvious pick for the PK duty.  I wonder why he was not on the PK more when he started in Montreal.   Maybe because we saw him as a 25 goals player because of 1 good season in Columbus...

reminds me of Travis Moen :)
