As you guys know… (and I was chastised for it), I appreciate Josh Anderson returning to his bigger, scarier form… all he needs now is to drive the net more and let teammates clean up the chaos. He can be a destroyer of worlds if he combines all his gifts and plays big.

Solid game last game and playing like we need him to since Washington game where he got into the fray. He needs to play with this edge and summon his inner Hulk to be more effective … a mid point between Wilson and Kreider shall we say.

Just Joshin’: Full props to Josh Anderson for responding to a difficult season by reinventing himself. Anderson has become a valuable penalty killer and an intimidating brawler when he chooses.

I like Josh Anderson and defended him until last season's immolation made that impossible.

He is still much overpaid, so a segment of the fanbase will (understandably) never forgive him, but I like what he's brought this season and I'm happy that he's re-established himself as a quality NHLer.

The offense has been questionable too.  Not just production, but there's been an alarming number of games with really low shot counts, 24 shots/game average.  It's because of this I don't think we will see a drastic improvement even with Laine.

They were particularly low when St-Louis had them working on the defensive system and they forgot all about offence.

I think most here have noticed the vast improvement in Anderson's game this year. Playing with a lot more emotion and energy, sticking up for his teammates. It's great to see. He had to be better this year as he was just awful last year. Seems like he has his old speed back,  likely because he is playing with more confidence. Seems to be having fun out there.

It feels like St-Louis has given him a hall pass to allow him to play the way he knows how to play, rather than the more cerebral St-Louis system.

Anderson flip-flop;

23-24  4 seconds on the PK/game; 1:47/game on PP

24-25 1:46 on the PK/game, 5 seconds/game on PP

I think you are probably right on that. Sometimes you can't teach an old dog new tricks. The old tricks of Anderson I am ok with.

For me he needs to hit, forecheck, be mean (includes a fight every once in a while either for a teammate or because he got under someone’s skin), drive the net as often as possible. The points will come. He isn’t a bad player. He lost his identity. His emotion wasn’t there until the end of that Washington game. Now he just has to have the Ranger game on repeat. (But take the puck to the net more… for that matter so does Slaf.)

I like that.

The way Josh plays,  North-South Hit and Grind, his size and, especially speed, make him an obvious pick for the PK duty.  I wonder why he was not on the PK more when he started in Montreal.   Maybe because we saw him as a 25 goals player because of 1 good season in Columbus...

I agree with the above. I also think if he can get a little meaner it will improve his output. We need to see him more often in the crease when the whistle blows. Make the goalie crap himself when he sees Anderson coming. Make defensemen hate playing against him.

Sorry for the de-rail

I read this sentence and immediately thought of Xhekaj. He hits, he fights, he intimidates but he isn’t mean.

Ben Chairot was mean and genuinely wanted to hurt you. Xhekaj needs to learn that.

I tend to think its the opposite.  MSL style seems to be to let the players use their hockey IQ vs using a forced positioning/system.  However, if a player lacks hockey IQ, they wouldn't be very good in that scenario.  i.e. they'd need specific instructions.  It is possible that MSL is giving him better instructions this year.

I can't help but think of the movie Shawshank Redemption when Morgan Freemans character Red gets out of Jail and he is unable to take a piss without asking permission and being told that he can.  Andy has had some hard ass Coaches and could be institutionalized in that same sense.
