Your band-aid creates a hole on defence, which requires another bandaid.

Signing Granlund would be another band-aid but would not create any holes ...

Matheson is our top pairing dman - willing to move him. There are teams that are looking for that type of player at his cap hit. We have a number of first rounders in next two years, multiple second rounders, Beck, Kapanan, Mailloux, Engstrom, Roy.

But bundling stuff dosent get you there, think of what you dont want to trade and that is what is likely needed.

We may need to sacrifice a Caufield(or the like) + stuff (picks/prospects),  to get a nice centre or top pairing RH-d.

Or go for a promising blue chip prospect/young NHLer and cost would be bit lower.

No pain no gain... just how i see it.

thats all.

Yup, band-aids are fine, but not via trade IMO.. I'm good with it via signing.

If we trade I want a long term solution, but yes that might be painful in terms of assets.

Agree that trading for high-end players will usually cost high-end players (though sometimes draft picks can help).

But on the flip-side, trading someone like a Caufield or Slafkovsky has risk, too: the new player may not fit in or be happy or produce in the Montreal environment, and then we have taken a step backward. Right now the boys are really playing as a team, playing for each other, and that, too, has value.

Given that a band-aid may be sufficient (we may have a 2C in our prospect pool yet) I would hope that Hughes would choose the UFA route. But we shall see ...

A band-aid would give a couple of years to see what they actually have in Beck, Kapanen, Hage and ???? (if they miss the playoffs Calgary or Habs could win the lottery and move into somewhere in the top 6 - unlikely as that is).

The Rangers have lost 3 in a row, playing at home in a must win game and they get 1 shot in the 1st period. ONE!!

Something is very wrong there.  Go Canucks!

Just about 💯 percent sure you already have this knowledge but the Rags won 5-3 against Vancouver all the while being outshot 39-12.

5 goals 12 shots

Yes, the Rangers have a very good goalie.

Islanders lose to Calgary in overtime. I wish that were us last game but it’s still good news.

Canadiens GM Kent Hughes on why he didn’t sell at the NHL trade deadline — and what comes next - The Athletic

“I wouldn’t say that we came close,” Hughes said of dealing Armia. “By the time we got closer to the deadline, we started to move the goalposts a little bit for everybody. I told teams, ‘I can’t say an absolute ‘no,’ but it’s going to have to be a massive overpay for us to consider doing it.’ The other (pending UFAs), David Savard and Christian Dvorak, were less likely for me just because I didn’t think the return was worthwhile and we would have had to grab players out of (AHL) Laval and weaken Laval — and to get mid-round picks, it wasn’t worthwhile.”

that makes sense for the NHL roster, but I would have liked to see something done to improve the AHL team to make a strong push for the Calder cup

Habs Weekly: More Ground Gained – HabsWorld.net

– Brendan Gallagher is up to 17 goals on the season, his best mark since the 2019-20 campaign.

Interesting observation that Monty has a history of fading down the stretch. I hadn't realized that.

All the more reason why he should only be playing 2 out of 3 games approx.

Montembeault will likely face St. Louis and then rest against either Philadelphia or Carolina since there’s a back to back. I’d rest him against Philadelphia, but we’ll see how things play out.

This season March has been arguably Montembeault’s best month of the season though so hopefully this season’s different. Last year he was even better in March individually, despite the team’s record. As was noted, usually the Habs have been tanking around this time of year. This year we’re fighting for a playoff spot and Montembeault’s going to have to be a big part of that.
