Given it is a two-way AHL/ECHL contract, is this really expected to be a signing for the Rocket or a signing for the Lions, that also provides depth for the Rocket?

The official annnouncement says Connor Hughes signed with the Habs, not the Rocket.

The devil is in the details.

Now the Lions are welcoming him. Maybe he is closer to Trois-Rivieres than Laval

Hope Beck has a great off-season and pushes for a spot in the fall.

Canadiens' Beck poised to prove offensive ceiling is higher than expected (sportsnet.ca)

“He put together a visualization board for me at the start of the year, focusing on a lot of the things that he wanted me to improve on and the things that he wanted me to focus on.”

The big things on it — like cracking Team Canada’s world junior roster — were just as important to Beck as the small things.

“Cleaning up after myself in the room and not making any unnecessary work for any other staff members, for example,” Beck said was instrumental in further developing character.

Nice to see the level of support the prospects are getting from Byron.

And seemingly Beck is Suzuki-like in character.

Beck was also scholastic player of the year in 2022. You don't get that done while playing junior hockey unless you have smarts and discipline. Another reason to like him.

If you had a chance to reverse the last two drafts. Would you trade Demidov + Reinbacher for Michkov + one of the dmen available in this years draft?

How will Michkov & Demidov pan out.

Will Michkov win the Calder this year over Celebrini?

Top 100 drafted NHL prospects ranking: Celebrini, Michkov lead Wheeler’s summer 2024 list - The Athletic (nytimes.com)

"Demidov’s one of the most purely talented prospects to come out of Russia in recent memory (his game also has more of a pro style, competitiveness and roundedness to it than Michkov's had at the same age) and scouts really like him. He profiles as a point-producing star winger and PP specialist."

Question for the more "technicalities" informed:

Clickbait 30 and various Twits ... err Twitter posters ... are suggesting the Habs buy out Demidov's SKA Saint Petersburg contract so he can come over for the 24/25 season ... are they allowed to do so?

I dont know.

If he plays KHL and gets OK icetime, wouldnt hurt if he simply played out his contract.

But, would be very 'exciting' to see him jump ship and be at training camp.

Dont think is any big hurry though.

This was discussed on the Demidov thread a week ago. I asked Commandant about it. His reply

"Without a comprehensive league wide transfer deal, (like the NHL has with the SHL, Liiga, Swiss, Germany, Slovakia, Czechs, etc....) any buyout of a KHL contract goes against the team's salary cap and would be a violation of the rules on ELCs, so its not possible."

No the habs are not as this is an impermissible benefit under the CBA.  They have to pay him via his ELC and he has to buy out his own contract with those funds.  But of course that is all still based on ELC limits so doing so is near impossible.

I'd rather have Michkov/Leonard and Demidov.

Nice write up on Fowler. Thanks for sharing.

You don’t hear that much about him except that he is supposed to be good. The article got me a bit pumped about Fowler and the fact that our team is amassing players that have top end potential.

As noted in the post from @Habs Fan in Edmonton above, COULD the HuGo decide to pay a buyout/transfer-fee if they counted it against their 24/25 cap?

The Habs have 2-2.5M in free cap space, even including 23/24 bonus overages and allowing for 24/25 potential bonuses; and, if absolutely necessary, could LTIR Price at some point in the season to increase that (at least avoiding the cap-shackles of Carey starting the season on LTIR).
