He's also just been a President before; that's how he started with Carolina in 2014 before taking on the GM role in 2018. My guess is that he gets both roles to start, Davidson goes to a senior advisory role, and Nash takes over as GM in a couple of years when he's ready. I'm hoping JD retires altogether. It was a travesty that he and Jarmo kept their jobs after the Babcock debacle. I think there needs to be a lot of turnover to turn that franchise around. 11 hours ago, GHT120 said: Good bet ... but a hilarious result would be Waddell becoming President and hiring Bergevin. What a mean thing to say. What did the Blue Jackets a0rver do to you? lol

DON
Still think it should have a Morman-slant to it. The Utah Latter Day Saints "The NHL team in Utah is down to six finalists for a name. Commandant
Would you want a team called the New York Jews Or the Boston Catholics. Why is it okay to do it with Mormons when it wouldnt be cool for anyone else?

I wish they were called the Utah Beauts (a pun on 'buttes') but I'm sure it will be something stupid, so Yeti it is. Outlaws or Mammoth would be my actual choices from this list. DON
And name was just a joke, holy f' people are so touchy these days, good god! (however, 55% of Utah would likely be OK with the Utah Saints). The 6 options all sound corny, but so did the 'Penguins' at the time!

Being a photographer who loves going to Southern Utah/northen Arizona, I would have like to have seen monoliths as a an option and they could have had Delicate archas their logo. but if we are going to bring religion/culture into, I think the Utah Polygamists would be a cool name😀

Not sure what will happen in CBA negotiations, but in the meantime, it will make the cap rise faster, which its already doing as they went from an estimate of $87.7 million at the allstart game to a final number of $88 million for next year. Prime Minister Koivu
It won’t happen until July, but according to multiple sources, the Washington Capitals have reached an agreement to purchase the outstanding CapFriendly website, @FriedgeHNIC reports. Ummm this is bullcrap. I use that site quite a bit and surely Washington is going to close public access.

I remember what a huge issue escrow was when it was first introduced and I wonder if the Players are going to demand changes now. It also means that the NHL is growing which is good news for the game.
Commandant
Puckpedia also has cap information, and while its not as nicely designed and doesn't have all the features of capfriendly, it will likely be the substitute (At least til someone makes something new). That space helps teams who are tight against the cap by giving them relief, more than it helps teams who already have space. Also we have seen, in numerous leagues and in numerous cases that the cap going up helps the highest paid players the most. The average going up, doesn't mean that those on NHL minimum or close to it are going to see increases. There is definitely a tiering where the elite players get more of the increase. The Chicoutimi Cucumber
I’ll bet, though, that good-but-not-elite RD also see a disproportionate increase. That position seems to be weighed in gold.

But some idiot GM/owner will overpay for a bottom pairing or 3rd pairing player, or a bottom pairing dman because they now have some extra cap room. Those types of mistake can than be used as a comparable for arbitration and other plumbers. Yiu look at Nurse's contract. How EDM gave him $9m is beyond comprehension. But that will be used as a comparable by other dmen. Given how teams will be rushing for physicality in depth players after seeing Florida, I bet we see some dumb contracts in free agency. On the plus side, given Armia's strong finish, the higher cap, and desire to get bigger, we may actually help us unload Armia for actual assets! At the very least, he may be part of a package for a team looking to move their #1. It's too bad the Sens and Buffalo are in our division, because i see them and NJD, as probably the most willing to live their #1 pick. Yes, teams make mistakes with contracts.... they did so before the cap, and have done so under the cap, and will continue to do so with a cap. Good management is important. Not sure what is news about this though.
