Team went on a 1025 PDO bender this year.  Can they repeat it?

Such a good question.

I predicted that they’d be a playoff team this year, because I thought their core was elite and that management had surrounded it with adequate depth and support. But it’s worth remembering that Rutherford himself, in October, said that “everything would have to go right” for them to make the dance. They stayed mostly injury-free and got career seasons from Boeser, Hughes, Joshua, and Hronek. And they all bought in to Tocchet’s system, with enthusiasm.

I’m no advanced stats guru, but the team I saw played a very sound defensive structure. I think that will keep them competitive even if there is some regression. Management definitely wants to add an impact W (Jake Guentzel is the obvious candidate), which would help.

On the other hand, there is a realistic chance they can’t get Hronek signed to a long-term deal (he reportedly wants $8 mil!) and they have a ton of UFAs.

And what about Boeser? What is the longer-term impact of blood clots? I have no idea. But if he is compromised, then a team already weak at W gets even worse.

So next year’s Canucks will have the same core but the supporting cast will likely look very different.

Around the 14:50 mark ... Freidman seems to be expecting KK to be bought out

Pettersson, “It will be nice to get a break from everything,"
"It's been a very noisy season in terms of the contract and how shit I've been the last few months."

That would be hilarious and I wonder if he would go home and play in a Euro league

Pettersson claims to have had a knee injury that got progressively worse and needs rest.

Many in Van asking why he wasn’t rested down the stretch.

Hes still young.  Someone will give him a cheap one year deal ala Drouin.

I can see him getting more than one year, frankly. Maybe two. A big C with playoff experience and high pedigree - some team will think “hmmmmm.” Heck, even Van might take a flyer on him; they need FWs.

I think KK will want one year though.

His best bet is to go to a team that needs a 2nd/3rd line C, get icetime, put up points and then look for a bigger deal in the summer of 2025.

I dont think teams will offer him significant money this summer.

From Friedman:

Well, it is official.

Hurricanes announce Don Waddell is stepping down.

Eric Tulsky is interim GM

Search on for full-time

If I was a canes fan I would want him gone too.

Perhaps this opens the door to a Necas deal (although there seems to be a very troublesome father attached).

This has already been discussed but I would offer KK a very low one year contract.

IF HuGo fail to get that top line forward then I would try KK on Dach’s wing along with Newhook

Its very unlikely to happen but low risk

If he can be a W then I wouldn't object either, but like most I do not believe KK would want to come back here. Too hard on the ego, too much water under the bridge and "a lot of other stuff too," as birthday boy Bob Dylan sings.

If I were Canes fan I'd want Dundon gone ....

Less chance than very unlikely, I would say almost zero chance.

I wonder what's really going on in Carolina with Waddell leaving??

Waddell was on an expiring contract.  He might have had the nerve to ask for a raise after being one of the more underpaid executives over the last decade.  As we know with Dundon, he fully operates under the 'everyone is replaceable' mindset when it comes to his off-ice personnel.

Waddell found out that Bergevin was in the running for the Columbus GM job. so he quit and with one more act of revenge, Waddell is going to take that GM position away from Bergevin.

Lol. That's great!

My first thought when the Canes allowed Waddell to look elsewhere was that they asked him to remain as President, but give up the GM job in favor of Tulsky.  But Tulsky only being named interim GM seems to quash that theory.

I wonder exactly what position(s) he interviewed for in Columbus.  Does being GM mean enough to him to work under JD?  Does he want both titles like he usually has had?  Or is he ready to just be a President and only replace JD, with the abilto handpick a GM?

Carolina typically pays coaches and execs much less than people with similar job titles on the other 31 teams.

With Brindamour it took forever but dundon finally gave him a fair contract recently.

Word was he wouldnt do it for Waddell.  So look for him to take another GM job (im betting columbus yes) that will pay him much more than carolina.

It’s nice to see your name again!

For Columbus’ sake I hope they get some stability and start building. They have been spinning their wheels for a long time.

Better MB goes to Canes so he can reunite with kk. 😁

This would genuinely be hilarious and for Bergevin to be the one to buy KK out would be amazing

My guess is that Columbus would give him the right to pick whatever role(s) he wants.  He's also just been a President before; that's how he started with Carolina in 2014 before taking on the GM role in 2018.  My guess is that he gets both roles to start, Davidson goes to a senior advisory role, and Nash takes over as GM in a couple of years when he's ready.

Good bet ... but a hilarious result would be Waddell becoming President and hiring Bergevin.
