The percentage of zero state tax teams in the league vs the percentage that make the semi final is enormous. Bob has been the difference. And Bob is a free player. You can pay 10% less when you don't have a 10% state tax. Alberta has the lowest provincial tax in canada and lowe than some states. Its lower than Ontario and Quebec but management matters. What is.the bad contract on florida? On edmonton you have nearly 20m tied up in Cambpell, nurse and Brown.... numbers that for their play should be less than 5 mill combined. Thats a bigger issue here.

A couple years ago Bobrovsky looked like a bad contract but now he may be the best goalie in the world and earning every penny. Spencer Knight has a cap hit of 4.5M but other than that they have done a good job. They will have some tough decisions this summer but when you win the cup you have a little less pressure. I am guessing the Oilers buy out Campbell. It will be a cap hit of 1.5M over 6 years but will save them money in the short term which they will badly need because they have Bouchard and Draisatl's contract up next year and then McDavid the year after. I expect big raises coming up. Not sure how they can keep all three. I think the Oilers have a 2 year window to win it and this was year one. Holloway and Broberg are guaranteed spots next year with their cap hits. Desharnais was a valuable player this year and will be a UFA, someone will pay him more than the Oilers can afford. Paying Nurse 9.25M for the next 6 years is mind boggling. Campbell was obviously a bad contract and structuring Brown's contract like they did looked smart in the short term but will really hurt next year eating up all the gains from the higher cap. It's hard to be optimistic about the Oiler's future especially since they have traded so many first round picks as you always need a few good young guys coming up on ELC's to make the cap work. After Broberg and Holloway the cupboard is pretty bare.

Alberta provincial tax is more than zero. Used to be flat 10, now it's more. Nearly par with British Columbia. Yes, management is an issue, but there is no denying the tax advantage that Dallas, Vegas, Tampa, and Florida have.
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Crazy first period. Oil have 6 goals in the last two periods…too little too late, but enough to give their fans the most tenuous tendril of hope.

I expected an Oil win tonight but I certainly didn’t expect a beat down like this! I still fully believe that Florida finishes things in game five. Prime Minister Koivu
I’m ready for the playoffs to end but McDavid doesn’t agree. Florida going to choke a 3-0 lead?

Habs Fan in Edmonton
McDavid was phenomenal tonight. He has 34 assists in the playoffs, to put that in perspective a guy like Matthews had 38 assists in the whole regular season. McDavid has earned his playing against playoff caliber teams. I have no idea what will happen Friday but things will be rockin in Edmonton.
Helmethead
If they somehow manage to come back and win the holy grail I’ll gladly eat crow. All joking aside he has been an absolute UNIT these past two games.

Prime Minister Koivu
McDavid Conn Smythe trophy regardless of who wins the cup. He is miles above anyone else and it’s not even close.
Habs Fan in Edmonton
Bobrovsky has all of as sudden looked human, every game is different but the Oilers all of a sudden have confidence and momentum. Florida will have to earn it now.

It’s really, really hard to win four straight against a Cup-calibre team. In fact it’s hard to win four straight against any playoff team. The playoffs are always about adjustments, so any time you’re doing things that work the other team devises strategies to counter it. Often that results in a loss. That being said, EDM is one of those squads - more than most in the league - that, when they get on a roll, seem to be unbeatable. There was a stat that showed them going on long, unbroken runs of victory whenever they lost three in a row this season. If anybody can do it, it might be them. Certainly I want them to. It would be truly incredible to watch that kind of historic triumph being won. The problem, IMHO, is still Skinner. He’s been good the last couple of games, but I don’t trust him not to f**k up at a key moment, nor do I trust him to make the massive, game-defining save that Cup champs generally need to get. At least the Oilers didn't quit and have given Florida something to think about. It's also been fun to watch McDavid. He carried the team on his back last night. Sir_Boagalott
Wow, what a ballsy call to do that offside challenge. If they had lost that it might have cost them the series.

Sir_Boagalott
The longer this goes the more probable it seems. This series feels like it is dragging on and taking forever. Game 7 probably should have been played yesterday. One explanation for the Oilers comeback is the 2 days off between games - that seems to have killed the Panthers momentum. The Oilers were probably tired after the 1st 3 rounds and they are getting the rest they badly needed. Plus, in other game when Tkachuk made the big diving save preventing an open net goal the rest of them had completely quit on that play. If the Panthers don't win the Cup that was probably the turning point in the series.

There was only 1 day off between games 3 and 4, so yeah... the two days off didn't change the momentum And the longest distance travelled ever in a stanley cup final has an extra day when they change cities seems completely fair to both teams (and great for the fans as we get rested players and fast hockey instead of jet lagged shitty hockey).
