Commandant
Reality is even if the PP scores two goals or something tonight, what does it mean when all the PP guys are in the press box. Id also point out that im not sure "policing" it even works given that both the laine hit and the hit on dach came in games xhekaj was playing.
TurdBurglar
The only hope for the PP is there hasn't been many games where the units have all been together. That being said, wow, this is probably the worse looking PP I've ever seen, and that's impressive as they'd iced some awful looking PP's the last few years. Commandant
Oh the PP even with the top.unit has looked terrible all preason. Nothing they do tonight can change that though. I already have zero confidence in it so it cant get worse, and goals by guys who wont be on the PP in the regular season do nothing for me.
Prime Minister Koivu
Yeah meaningless game with half AHLers but it’s still fun to watch the young guys. Heineman has had some good shifts. Kapanen isn’t impressing me tonight Gallagher is playing decent. How great would it be if he scored 30 this year!

Yeah he isn’t likely to make the team this season but his skating and puck moving skills are solid

My expectations weren't high for this game so I wasn't too disappointed. Guhle played like he was excited to play again and brought a lot of energy. Arber had a solid game. Mailloux didn't help himself, didn't seem to handle the puck well tonight. Engstrom is a tremendous skater but I wonder about his decision making sometimes, badly out of position on the 1st Ottawa goal.

DON
Keep thinking, if Hughes hadnt traded for Barron, would he still be on the team? Maybe has improved, i dont see it. Dvorak 8 of 11 on face offs, he will always be good there it seems; Kapanen needs to improve on that and just coming back older stronger next year should help. tomh009
As a rule, almost all young centres need to work on their faceoff skills. Habs's centremen have been able to improve significantly in this regard and I expect that Kapanen, Beck and others will be able to do the same. dlbalr
Not every name is out there yet of the 59 players on waivers but it doesn't look like any Montreal players are in that group. That suggests Barre-Boulet is making the season-opening roster at least.

It is always good to have a good share of Quebecers in the bottom-6 ( since they cannot sign any for the top-6)

Don't get me wrong, Barre-Boulet absolutely earned a spot but I'm expecting more of the same from him - basically, the same level of performance that had him on waivers several times in recent years. I want to see ABB work out but there is a good chance that he doesn't because he is basically Pitlick. i.e. both have decent skills and should be top 6 players. However, their issue seems to be neither are good at being bottom 6 guys. They are not the grinder checking type of player. Unfortunately for them, they've been stuck on teams that already have top 6 players so they've been unable to crack a full time NHL spot. For ABB to stick around he should be on the 2nd line. That's a good comparison. To borrow a baseball term, they're AAAA players - too good for AAA, not good enough for the majors. (In this case, too good for the AHL, not good enough for the NHL, at least in the same type of role they play in the minors.) At least he's going to get some power play reps which makes sense. DON
Habs Trim Training Camp Roster by Four – HabsWorld.net "...Speculatively, it wouldn’t be shocking for Arber Xhekaj to be on that list solely for cap management purposes; he’d be recalled on Tuesday once the LTIR placements are made." I don't think anybody is expecting big things from ABB but that's why you have training camp. Guys need to come to camp thinking they have a chance. It was also likely meant as a wake up call to Roy. Roy will likely be back soon after the next rash of injuries so I am thinking he is back up Thursday.
DON
Roy being cut. Was it more for him to get more experience on PP with lots of icetime and not so much a demotion for piss-poor pre-season?
