Hate to put this out there but there are rumors flying on Twitter of a tragic event involving Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew.

Man I hope it isn’t true.

Unfortunately it is.

I’m absolutely heartbroken.

Riding their bikes after their sisters wedding rehersal, the wedding is today.

Driver was weaving in and out of traffic and drunk.

Johnny leaves behind a wife, a six month old, and another toddler

Unreal

So tragic and preventable.

A brutal tragedy that destroyed two lives and ruined a wedding.

One decision by one person has crushed many lives.

Obviously, condolences to his family and friends ... and especially to his sister, whose wedding they were to attend today ... imagine having your wedding anniversary (even if the ceremony is re-scheduled) be an annual reminder of your brothers' deaths.

A reminder to us all to both (a) think twice before getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol ... you are rarely if ever as sober as you think, and it can take so little an impairment to result in tragedy ... AND ... (b) to always drive with caution ... this might even have happened were the driver sober ... too many (selfishness/self-importance?) drive with a lack of patience.

I expected a huge salary and 14 million a season is certainly that. I wonder how much McDavid will get then?

I think the number is no surprise, I expect McDavid will get in the 16M range but that will depend to some degree on what happens to the salary cap.

Oilers have no choice but to pay those guys.

Challenge will continue to be how to fill out the rest of the roster. Perhaps the cap goes up significantly

The VERY early guesses I have read for the 25/26 salary cap ceiling is a $5M increase to $93M ... if true, that would mean that the entire cap increase for 25/26 goes to Draisaitl, plus another $500K ... but the only significant contract due is Bouchard (which could be a doozie) ... they should be able to fill out the 25/26 roster, but not make any significant additions without other moves.

If that is correct then Hughes might end up looking like a genius for locking up his guys to long term contracts.

Agree on both points. Oilers had no choice but to sign Draisaitl. If he goes then McDavid likely goes.

Honestly, as long as reinbacher is steady, I'm happy. A big smooth reliable rd is hard to find. Even if mitchkov is good. Lots of ifs.

The team rankings has always been available; for tallest, lightest, oldest.., etc

Hughes is drafting favouring size, it seems, but i guess larger size is statistically helpful to win cups.

So cant (or shouldnt) complain much.
