DON
‘No one is spared’: Tracing Mike Babcock’s imperious NHL coaching career - The Athletic (nytimes.com) Not sure what thread for this, not a nice person at all; but, i bet still likely would be hired by some Owners. "Chris Chelios, a Hall of Fame defenseman who played for Babcock in Detroit, was appalled by how Babcock treated Franzen. “Literally, he was calling him into his office once a week to call him a fat pig and say that your teammates hate you and why don’t you just quit,” Chelios told the “Spittin’ Chiclets” podcast, which also first revealed the photo-sharing allegations in Columbus. More offensive, maybe... but in terms of an all around defenceman.... I think the only Levshunov and Silayev would be ahead of Reinbacher and there is a good chance they aren't there at 5. I'm kinda hoping both of them go, and Demidov falls to us. Yes, Im hoping for Demidov too. We have our powerforward in Slaf, our sniper in Caufield och our playmakeing C in Suzuki. Now give us a winger ala Datsyuk. Is he abit like Datsyuk?

Maybe it is just me, but I have a hard reconciling Jeff Skinner and Pavel Datsyuk as "comparables" for the same player ... PD had ever so slightly more goals per 82-games (29.34 vs 29.10), more than twice as many assists (51.97 vs 25.51) and won three Selke Trophies. Commandant
Comparables are always about playing STYLE, not Quality. That said, I don't see the defensive game to compare him to Datsyuk.

Prime Minister Koivu
Lots of rumours around Necas and Frank Seravalli even thought that a trade might happen before the Stanley cup finals even begin. Montreal of course is heavily rumoured to be after him. So what kind of player is he? Well these stats scream to me that Necas should be playing with Slafkovsky to take advantage of Slaf’s passing ability. I would like Necas at the right cost (picks and depth guys). Commandant
I think Necas would be an excellent addition (of course depending on cost). That said, I wouldn't break up a line that was one of the best in the NHL from December to the end of the season. Necas with Dach would take advantage of Dach's puck possession and passing game. Those shots also show that Necas was a good passer (chance assists, primary shot assists, in-zone shot assists, rush shot assists are all high), but the actual assists being only 48% suggests he was passing to players who don't have good shooting talent. Which has been a problem in Carolina for a while. Great analytics, few pure goal scorers.

Newhook - Dach - Necas sure looks like a dangerous line too.

Probably more than I'd hope we are willing to pay. Friedman said a lot of teams have interest, so I don't see the Canes in a must move quickly for for cap reasons situation. The Jets pick, or someone like Harris/barron is all I'd want to give up from assets I value - would be afraid of trading anyone else in case they come back to haunt us. The other guy MAYBE the canes would be interested in to get more grit is Armia. I think it will cost even more for Zegras, and the ducks will have absolutely no need for Armia, and probably wouldn't value Harris/Barron. They'd probably want Hutson/Reinbacher. if the cost for Necas is anymore than what I've listed (which I'm sure it will be), I'd rather and try and package the jets puck with players to another top 12 1st rounder. I expect they would want someone on an ELC or otherwise inexpensive as the cap is the biggest reason why they're willing to trade Necas anyway. Or the Winnipeg pick plus a strong prospect? Or would the #5 pick be necessary?

I don't think we have a forward who is both more valuable than Farabee and who I would be willing to trade for Necas. The question though is what Carolina wants, and looking at their roster, perhaps its defence they want and not forwards. I think you'd be looking at something like Matheson for Necas, and I'm think that would be painful but I'd do it depending on what type of contract Necas wants. If they don't want LHD, then we probably don't have anything we can offer them. I mean Mailloux and 25 might get their attention, but I doubt it. I think with the number of teams looking at Necas, if its not a move for a LHD, I don't see where we have what they want.

Almost all their defensemen (Orlov, Slavin, Pesce, Skjei, Burns, DeAngelo) are 28+ and are in their peak earning contract years. They can't afford to keep everybody. Other than Scott Morrow they don't have anybody important on ELC's. That is a problem. I think in today's salary cap world you always need 2 or 3 somewhat important guys coming up on ELC's or you have some really tough decisions to make. I think younger and affordable is a key for us as well. I wouldn't want to acquire a guy who can become a UFA in a couple of years and we will need to commit big $. If 2 or 3 of our young prospects pan out (and I'm not including Slafkovsky in that bucket - I think Hughes will try and get him locked in this year), we are going to face the same issue in two years, when are window should just be starting. Im also not keen on trading some of our young players who may have higher ceilings than we originally thought, will be on cheaper contracts and we will have a full seven years of control (I.e. Beck, Kapanen, Engstrom). I'm okay on moving Harris (who I really like as a depth dman), Barron (who I think has a lot of upside and we maybe get moving - there were some Edmonton fans calling Bouchard a bust and wanted to move him two years ago). But even than I'd want the package we are moving out (i.e. jets pick, another 2nd or 3rd rounder), to bring back a forward that is better than Newhook, or pick up another top 12 pick. Frankly, I'd rather try and see if we can either move up to get Demidov, or try and get another top 12 pick and see if we can get any two of Eiserman, Iginla, Catton, Helenius, Lindstrom, or Sennecke, or Parekh. i do think Buffalo and NJD would probably want guys that can help now. Would either of them bite at Jets pick, Armia (ant 50% retention) and Harris/Barron? i also think that if Anaheim and Chicago want a dmen, there is a better chance of them being willing to move down to pick up more assets, so who knows, Demidov may be possible. Having said that, I think the hawks will probably pick Demidov, and if is still available at #4, Columbus will take him for sure.

Young and affordable can apply to many teams but I think it really applies to Carolina right now. I am not crazy about spending a ton to get Necas. He (or his dad) seem to be demanding a lot as far as playing on the top line etc. He is good, no doubt about that, but I guess it depends on the cost and how he would fit in salary wise and everything else. There will be a lot of demand to try and get him so the cost will be steep. I think a guy like Owen Beck would be a guy other teams will bring up in any sort of trade negotiation. His performance at the Memorial Cup didn't hurt his trade value (70% in the faceoff circle!). I like the idea of trying to trade up but that is also hard to do.
