Yeah but he seemed to always speak highly about his teammates as well, wanting the best for them. It's all good. The Sabres will like him and at the same time we likely won't miss him too much in the end.

Wow, our defense is sh*t for next year, and I don't see how Bergy fixes it without giving up offense we can't afford to lose.  Disappointing to see our high hopes for Beaulieu end in a frickin 3rd.  That said, at least we're spared another year of wishing and hoping for this goober to get it together.  He might establish himself as a solid second pairing guy in Buffalo, but maybe he'll always frustrate; it certainly wasn't easy to root for N8. 

 

Maybe it's easier for players to make a leap in maturity in their second NHL city, especially if it's coming after the fishbowl of Montreal. I Wouldn't be surprised if other guys who were drafted here wish it was their turn for a fresh start.

Whoever trades for Beaulieu has to protect him over another guy who they might lose to Vegas... his value is going to be hit in that situation.

 

(Plus n8 is most likely going to be a bottom pairing guy and hockey people know it)

Has all this expansion draft posturing made people forget that there will still be a draft and UFA period? Still lots of opportunity for improvement.

 

In retrospect Beaulieu for Girgensons would have been fantastic.

So MB didn't want to loose him to Vegas for nothing...a third round pick is basically nothing. If he was here perhaps Vegas would have picked him thus we wouldn't loose Hudon or someone else for nothing.

 

His value would have been higher after the expansion draft because whoever traded for him would have to protect him.

 

I'm not sad that he is gone it just seems like MB didn't think this through.

Honestly I don't think Weber and Price were too happy with Nate either just judging from their interactions with him throughout last season.

 

His whole "I did not learn anything" when he was a healthy scratch. I'm sure the team had just about enough of him from the leadership to management.

Personally my thoughts are about what CK's are. Always liked and continue to like Beaulieu, and think he won't look back and be a top 4 in Buff for the foreseeable future. Expect about 35 points from him next season.

 

that being said, I'm not really upset by the trade either. There's no doubt he's had his troubles, and MTL would have lost him for nothing anyway. Considering that everyone will lose something, I'm glad we got an early 3rd in return.

That is just brutal. Five first round picks dealt and what we have to show is a second-round exit, a DNQ, and a first-round exit, from a team that has addressed none of its basic weaknesses over that span. Welcome to Leafsland.

Vegas takes Plekanec.  He's $6M for one year and becomes their defensive forward specialist.

Is there really that much of a difference? 

 

Put on a GM hat for a moment - do you think Hudon is worth a 2nd round pick on his own?  (Keeping in mind he's no longer waiver exempt and has all of six games of NHL experience, both are concerns for someone who'd want to take him.)  I don't think he'd get that.  If Hudon gets taken in option two, the pick they got for Beaulieu is equivalent to about peak value (if not a bit better) for Hudon which would then make the same as Beaulieu for nothing which is your first scenario.  Value wise, there isn't a big gap between the two options unless you're more optimistic about Hudon's NHL future than I am.
