Butterface
In what year do you see the Canadiens making the playoffs again? George McPherson I think they’re are at least two seasons away from being a legitimate playoff contender. Laine, 26, only has one more season after this remaining on his contract, but if he performs well after returning to the lineup there’s the possibility of re-signing him or getting something of value in return in a trade. Ivan Demidov, who has 6-14-20 totals in 31 games this season with SK St. Petersburg in the KHL, will be with the Canadiens next season. Michael Hage, who has 8-8-16 totals in 12 games as a freshman at the University of Michigan, is probably a couple of years away from joining the Canadiens. Goalie Jacob Fowler has a 9-2-0 record with a 1.67 goals-against average, a .936 save percentage and four shutouts as a sophomore at Boston College and could be the Canadiens’ No. 1 goalie two seasons from now. But there are no guarantees in a rebuild, as fans of the Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa Senators are well aware. The Sabres look like they could miss the playoffs for the 14th straight season, while the Senators look like they might miss the playoffs for the eighth straight year. Defence is a team process and the new system is a huge complication, but I tend to agree the grades skew toward the generous. Primeau, for example, should be a 1. It is basically impossible to play any worse than he's played. Mailloux played himself off the team, he should be maybe a 3. I'd give Savard a 5 at most. But most of these grades are pretty reasonable IMHO
IN THE HEARTS OF MEN
Some real roster questions loom in the coming week... -RHP will need to brought back to Mtl or waived? -Laine activated will cause an even bigger log jam. Who comes out of the lineup? Does Roy get sent back down ? Over the last number of weeks I would think Heinemen has cemented a spot on the team with his speed, hitting and forecheck -Anderson n Armia are key cogs on a successful PK -gally has been arguably our most consistent forward... -Dvorak and Evans for face-offs Is a trade imminent? Yes, could be a log jam, not sure where RHP fits in. Agree on Heineman, has definitely cemented a spot. Pezzetta hasn't dressed for a while, I think. Could be some sort of trade brewing. Prime Minister Koivu
I expect RHP to hit waivers I think Roy gets sent back to Laval and Pezzetta will continue to sit. I wouldn’t mind a trade though
GHT120
RHP had an amazing streak in 22/23 (34 gms, 14g 6a) but otherwise is 5g/82 games scorer ... similar to Pezzetta (7/82) ... but Pezzetta brings size and aggressiveness ... I expect RHP is waived and likely is not claimed; if he is, I-M-O ... oh well. I agree Heineman deserves to stay in the lineup. Simplicity, and likely merit at this point, is Roy goes down ... he is getting only 11:17 per game, with no PK and a total of 16 seconds on the PP in his 2 games. TurdBurglar
I wonder if RHP or Heineman would be of any interest to Columbus in a package for Jiricek. There was suggestion that the Jiricek trade could already of been done, but what if it is? The holdup is for RHP to be cleared as he's involved? On an unrelated side note, it's crazy to think Guhle is waivers exempt according to Puckpedia.

Heineman ... yes ... he is young and has shown potential ... could be of some interest, but not a driver of any trade. I-M-O, RHP is an AHL player who had a hot streak in the NHL for 34 games ... turns 26 in a little over a month ... I expect he clears waivers when his conditioning stint is done ... at best, a throw-in on any trade.

The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Nothing against RHP. But he is a prototypical example of the kind of player that fans of bad teams get excited about.

So for someone like Mailloux, his role was as a depth player so expectations shouldn't have been too high. He had some blunders that cost him, sure, but he also made some stuff happen offensively so a 5/10 grade (middle of the pack on the scale) makes sense to me. IN THE HEARTS OF MEN
With J. Roy usage and TOI yesterday, it is a clear indicator that he will be rejoining Laval when Laine gets officially activated. now for the lines... who is where? I for one believe Laine should immediately join the top 6. We should not be d**king around managing where he starts on this roster and he should not start on the bottom 6 for any reason. Of course managing his minutes is a whole other question which I believe should be considered. In fact, I believe he is best suited to start on Suzuki's wing from the start. His pedigree is best on the team if assessment is based on past results. Currently, and obviously Suzy playing 20min , should not mean Laine plays 20. But, provided his health holds up, +14 minutes to start with talent around him is most ideal. Does that mean Caufield gets moved down lineup again? Our two best triggermen ideally shouldn't be on the same line. Could Laine be the guy to get Dach over the hump from his own injury woes? Does putting two guys coming off major issues together make sense? Gally has been been great over these +20 games to start. Is he back to his former self of being a guy you insert on any line to get them going, with his killer effort level, and never quit attitude? For me Gally renaissance began with around 20 games left last season and he might be one to consider in the top 6 as well. so many options now from just adding another bonafide big elite scoring winger... But, when he becomes elite again, if ever, is the bigger question. And after what he has been through, cant see him having a big impact for a awhile, but like everyone, am curious to see what he can do to help. Special team advantage? Seems odd, but good to see.
