That assumes he would want to ...

Well, he can be a team player or not... he is looking for a new contract i imagine.

Well, not everyone who is good at something can "teach" it .

Gretzky was a decent player, but had a 0.435 winning percentage in four seasons as a coach ... which was five years after buying in to the Coyotes and being "appointed" head of hockey operations and four years after appointing his agent as general manager, so the mediocre team was "his".

Yet the guys who they get to do this in retirement... always quote their NHL faceoff % success as proof of qualification, it seems.:spamafote:

Dvorak is pretty good, it seems.

Tops are Giroux & Barkov bit over 60%

I believe that Condotta (who is left-handed) could center the 4th line next season. Not as effective as Dvorak but cheaper and ok as the 4th C. I am not a fan of Dauphin but he is a left-handed center who could fill in as an emergency call up.

At some point Florian Xhekaj could take the 4C role but he needs to develop more, he is just too immature/raw.

Condotta is not an NHL player and the fact is that the LHC who is signed will have to take a lot of Dzone draws against top lines and on the PK.  There is no evidence that Condotta would be able to play top lines and big PK minutes in the NHL.

Hope that this journeyman could do it as an NHL rookie is not a plan.

No, thank you. Any Rocket player to make the team next year should make it based on earning their spot in camp. I highly doubt that a 26/27 year old journeyman who has played 11 games in the NHL will all of a sudden impress enough to make the team, unless the Habs are looking to regress next year.

Never said Dvorak did not have face-off success ... just that we have no way of knowing whether he can teach or is willing to mentor (given he is unlikely to be back with the Habs) ... there is also the question (I-M-O) of whether having a team-mate deliver team mandated training is a good idea.

Id also say that Dvorak has been on the team for how many years now.  If he was capable of mentoring younger players to be better in faceoffs, why would the ask only come now? Have they already tried this, this season (or earlier) and based on that went outside the organization to hire a coach?

*** IF *** HuGo can get a positive report/endorsement about DeAngelo from from Demidov, and Bobrov's other sources ...

  • Should the Habs consider offering a contract to finish out the season now that his KHL deal is terminated?
  • Could DeAngelo could be Savard's "replacement" if he is traded (very different players, but would add some offence to the 3rd pairing, maybe a PP option)?

Y’all might call me crazy but I’m on the verge of taking them at +300 to win it all.

+300? Is it maybe +30000?

I didnt mind the DVorak trade at the time.:spamafote:

Diminished Returns: How Christian Dvorak Went from Hot Trade to the Habs’ Fourth Line – HabsWorld.net

"• One of his best NHL seasons came in 2019-20, when he scored 18 goals and 38 points in 70 games. It remains a career-high, showcasing the potential that once had nine teams vying for his services. Oy vey, right ?"

In the 2 seasons before he was traded to Montreal, Dvorak scored 18 goals in 70 games and 17 goals in 56 games so there was reason to believe he would contribute more than he has. It hasn't turned out.

I may be wrong, but wasn't he playing on the top line in Arizona? If I remember correctly, he used to collect mostly garbage goals. Maybe the change in roles was what affected him so much :spamafote: I do not know

At the time I though it was a decent last-minute trade given the situation.

He likely played top line given that Arizona had a very weak team back then. I have no idea about the garbage goals. Always tough to predict how a player will perform in a new situation. Some are inspired (ie. Laine), some not so much.

Hated the trade the moment I heard about it. Hope we slam the door on his ass hard on his way out!
