Of course. He is now a hab so of course he is injured. 😖

I know you were joking but did hurt knee prior to draft.

But;
Why Ivan Demidov is not at SKA's development camp | JDM (journaldemontreal.com)

"Presumably, the rehabilitation is taking a little longer than expected. Milstein did not want to give a timeline when contacted by the author of these lines.

If he recovers as expected from his injury, Demidov should logically play in the KHL with SKA next season. He will then spend the final year of his contract in Russia and will be able to join the Canadiens in 2025-2026."

FUN stuff for sure, the kid is skilled for sure.

He and Lane Hutson could be very entertaining on the PP.

Thanks for sharing. I am no scout but his puck handling skills seem pretty good.  LOL  Ridiculous!

Only thing is, most of highlights are vs fairly weak competition.

Yep, his stick handing is elite for sure.

I saw a great video the other day breaking down his stick handling skills.  The guy was very knowledgeable and made an interesting comment.  Most players tend to stick handle off their hip  i.e. out to their side.  However, Demidov tends to stick handle with his stick out in front of him.  The guy made a comparison that Datsyuk had that same tendency.

SKA coach Roman Rotenberg says that he just had a recent Zoom meeting with Hughes & Gorton & the Habs brass to discuss Ivan Demidov.

They had a “very positive conversation about how we would develop Ivan in SKA. There was no talk even about him leaving for Canada.”

This sounds very positive.

There must be a loan plan for Demidov if he doesn't crack the SKA roster.

In Michkov's first season he split time (13 games vs 12)  between St. Petersburg SKA and their VHL team ... the next two season he only played a total of 4 games with SKA, who loaned him to another KHL Team (Sochi HC, who haven't made the playoffs since 18/19) ... perhaps there are similar plans to loan Demidov to a KHL bottom-feeder if he isn't playing with St. Petersburg SKA.

different kind of contracts i think?

He cant be loaned out the same way as Michkov was... for some reason?

(my foggy memory could be wrong on that)

I guess Ivan is the international name for Vanya, or... ??

Vanya is a typical nickname for Ivan, similar to Sasha and Alexander.

The reason he can't be loaned out is because he only has 1 year left on his contract.  The difference is Michkov had 3 years left on his contract.

Don’t know why people want to rush this kid to the nhl so fast. This year should be our last year finishing in the bottom 10 of the league.

all of MB bad contracts will be coming off the books in the next 2-3 years time. Which means we can start adding to this new core group with free agency or trades.

bring him over next year and let the team develop nicely into a playoff team and hopefully with this talent a cup wining team.

this is probably the most talented group of young players and prospects we have had in the last 14 years.

lets not rush anything and enjoy watching them develop and grow.

I tend to agree, you make a good point about all the bad contracts coming off the books in 2-3 years. It's not a bad thing if we can delay Demidov burning a year of his ELC as it might give us more flexibility in signing free agents when we are a legitimate contender.

From my perspective it’s not about getting Demidov on the Habs as soon as possible. It’s about filling a giant hole in our roster with a player that’s able to.

I can wait another year for Demidov but I want a top 6 forward right now!

"Recall that Demidov only has one year left on his contract and, due to a KHL rule, a player with only one year left cannot be loaned to another team if he does not get the required ice time, as was the case the last two seasons with Matvei Michkov who was loaned to HC Sochi."

Again, so they would just trade him instead of loan him.  There is no difference since his contract is up at the end of the year.
