They qualified it as a minimum of eight weeks.  Usually when that's the case, it's longer than that with the re-assessment coming at the eight-week mark.  His return is then dependent on recovery going well so that surgery which would carry the longer timeline won't be needed.

the race for the bottom just got more probable

Another 6 weeks out for Gally. Maybe he can take the Price/Weber LTIR route after next year.

I do expect frequent injuries will prevent him from ever playing up to anything near the value of his contract but I don't see him as a Price/Weber LTIR type ... he will just miss a bunch of games every season ... but they won't render him physically unable to play for a full season.

Hope it has more to do with cap management than the duration of his injury.

Monahan's LTIR was made retroactive to the date of injury.  This is because they need the cap space to call up two players.  When he's ready to come back though, they will need to send someone down, make a trade, or put someone else on LTIR.

They need to clear $1.226M before they can activate Monahan.  Chances are Allen is back by then so Primeau and his $890K come off as he'll be back in Laval.  From there, it's sending a forward down for whoever loses their spot in the lineup (Pitlick or Harvey-Pinard potentially) so it should be pretty straightforward to get him back when ready (which could be on this homestand).

I agree its pretty straightforward.  Just was saying that the fact he was moved to LTIR is am accounting issue for the callups, not something to indicate his injury is worse.

Yes, crappy news.

ROSSARD -- The Canadiens issued several medical updates on Wednesday.

Juraj Slafkovsky suffered a lower-body injury that does not require surgery. He will be out for three months.

Jonathan Drouin suffered an upper-body injury on January 12 against Nashville. He will be out until the All-Star Break.

Jake Allen has an upper-body injury. He will be out for a minimum of one week.

Joel Armia has an upper-body injury. He will be out until the All-Star break.

Jake Evans suffered a lower-body injury that does not require surgery. He will miss eight to 10 weeks.

So, the rest of the season for Slafkovsky and maybe also for Evans. Ouch. And Armia and Drouin for another few weeks doesn't help, either.

And maybe Guhle too for the season 💩

Tough break for Slafkovsky that really, really sucks and I hope it doesn’t affect his very good skating

Hopefully the rest of the season ... I see no reason to bring him back for even 10-12 games.

When he is capable of practicing with team and is ready to play, i hope he dresses.

Yep. He needs to get his reps in on NA ice. Preferably ahl, but NHL is better than sitting on the couch.

This sets Slafkovsky up to play at the Worlds to get some more game reps in although it won't be on NA ice.

It sucks that Slaf is out for 3 months with a LBI.  Did anyone see or have any idea what caused his injury?  It seems odd that he is out for that long but there wasn't an obvious incident of the cause.
