ON-ICE he could be a good fit ... but there was "talk" that he wore out his welcome during last season in Edmonton ... if true, would he be on good behaviour for a year in Montréal?

Could be a one-year "bridge" for the Top 6.

He's a basket case and brings unnecessary drama queen who's worn out his welcome everywhere he's been. We've got a young team, that's not the type of veteran I'd want to bring to the mix.

Not sure if was discussed already, but Oilers asked Kane to waive his NMC.  I could see a fit in Montreal for the last year of his deal.  With the Jeff Skinner signing, they are at the cap with Holloway and Broberg to sign still.  They should be extra motivated to move him.  This is assuming Kane waives his NMC to goto Montreal.

Just noting that Kane has two years left, not one.  They're re-signing Henrique though so they definitely need to clear salary out somewhere.

I just saw the Henrique signing. They will have to shed salary now. The Oilers loved what Henrique brought and he really enjoyed playing for the Oilers. It seems like a good match but they have some selling to do. And they still have to sign Broberg and Holloway. Looks like they will try hard and move Kane. That might be tough.

Yup, 2.4 million over already and need to sign Dylan Holloway and Broberg.  No obvious LTIR candidate either.

Thats also a 22 man roster.

Talk on the Oilers boards is that Kane starts the season on LTIR because of hip issues. Something has to give. The Oilers signed Jeff Skinner, Victor Arvidsson AND kept Henrique! Didn't see that coming. Scoring won't be a problem. They also kept their 3rd line together. Apparently Henrique was offered more money elsewhere but wanted to come back. A player actually taking less money to play in Edmonton? That hasn't happened in a while.

Savard cannot be our top pairing RHD.

I want Guhle to play on his strong side. I agree that Savard on the top pair is scary, but when going down the list of right & left Ds, he is on the top of the totem pole

Everything points to a top pair of

Matheson - Guhle to start the season.

It's easy to just pencil in all the D from last year as starting with Mtl as well. With that said, Lane Hutson is going to be a Hab next season  to start the year i believe.

Yes ... but things may change in training camp yet. Xhekaj came from nowhere two years ago to claim a roster spot, this could happen again.

Ya I hate that he isn't on his strong side this early in his career.

On the other hand, I do believe that he is improving his play on RD as he gains more experience. A top-four (or a top-two, in the ideal case) D that can play either LD or RD effectively is super valuable.

Ya, dont think can hurts him any, just is awkward playing on off-side for any d-man and over play will suffer.

Backhand cross ice passes and  picking/stopping pucks off the boards on your backhand just is much much tougher.

I am expecting the Habs to put Guhle in the best spot to develop and succeed. Playing RD is holding him back on how well he could be playing ; if he continues playing on his offside and focusing on learning that: he is not focusing as much on other aspects that would solidify him as a top pairing D

That is what they did for Caufield and Slafkovsky ! Why would they do any less for their top young defenseman ?!

Thanks Coach.

You are assuming that he is not learning and improving on the right side, which is false.  There is plenty to learn by being challenged to play top pair minutes on your off-side and succeeding while doing it.

Becoming a versatile player who can play both RD and LD has a ton of value to the organization, so this isn't hurting Guhle, and even if eventually moved back to LD, the experience here will be valuable.

Absolutely tougher. But some players manage to thrive there, even with those limitations.

Sure. But what we don't know if he would have looked like a more legit long term top pairing guy by now, if he was left on his strong side, than potentially plateauing as a middle pair dman.

Hes 23... and D take longer.  Who says hes plateaued?

Read the post I said POTENTIALLY plateauing. It's one thing to have a guy occasionally playing on his wrong side, than playing more on his wrong side.

Again, I don't see the big issue with playing on his off side, he's actually learning more skills, to be quicker with the puck, and to start the breakout quicker, as well as defending on his wrong side... none of this suggests plateauing to me, it suggests even more improvement.

I'd have to agree here. I think his development has actually accelerated on his off wing, as he is challenged more to make quicker reads against tougher opposition on the top pair with big minutes.

I find it difficult to comment intelligently on whether it's helping or hurting Guhle to play the other side.  So much of a players development depends on building confidence, hard to say if that is happening the same way playing the other side.

My only comment on Guhle and others playing on their "off"-side is that it didn't seem to be much of an issue until Babcock started picking Team Canada on that basis ... not all teams have a "Team Canada"-deep pool of defencemen to choose from.

Maybe its playing on his off side is whats getting him clocked by hard hits so often.

Except for the fact his big injuries happened when playing his natural side.
